CARE Learning Tour to Zambia

April 25, 2018 in Photography

We travelled to Zambia to photograph the CARE Learning Tour delegation as they witnessed firsthand the importance of U.S investments in maternal and child health with a focus on family planning and reproductive health.

In 2011, Zambia reached lower middle-income status. However, even with this great accomplishment, maternal mortality rates remain high in the country.

Many women do not have access to information to help them access health services for safe delivery and post-partum health services. As a result, the country still suffers from high maternal mortality and morbidity rates.

Zambia has made great strides in its battle against HIV but there is still a need for outreach to vulnerable populations. According to the World Bank, the prevalence rate of HIV in 2016 was reported to be at 12.4 percent.

The delegation visited programs in Lusaka and Livingstone. Each encounter gave participants time to learn from key figures working on the ground, listen to beneficiaries’ stories and see the programs in action. Each visit showed how the programs have made an impact in the lives of the beneficiaries.
