EDUCATING A NATION

Because of the long civil war in Liberia, many girls did not have the opportunity to regularly attend school. The Liberian Ministry of Gender & Development's EPAG project (Economic Empowerment of Adolescent Girls & Young Women) has trained nearly 3,500 young women in business development skills, job skills, and life skills so they can get jobs or start their own businesses to support themselves and their families. EPAG is part of the World Bank’s global Adolescent Girls Initiative. The project is supported in partnership with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) through the World Bank Group’s Umbrella Facility for Gender Equality.
